HLTSS00068 - Occupational Skill set

About This Course

Target students include people who are either employed in, or intending to become employed in, nominated occupational first aider roles.  

This skill set provides a set of skills to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in a workplace environment, including the skills to provide an emergency first aid response in the event of an emergency. 

Entry Requirements

The HLTSS00068 Occupational first aid Skill Set is not normally offered as a stand-alone training course. Students will enrol in their choice of regular, scheduled courses with Salus Group Academy for three (3) units of competency: 

  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid 
  • HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid 
  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy 

And then attend the HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources course. 

Each of the four (4) units of competency required for the skillset must be completed within three (3) months.  

Students should consider the HLTSS00068 Provide occupational first aid training program to be six (6) days face to face training and assessment supported by eighty (80) hours of pre-reading and study in their own time. 

HLTAID011 Provide first aid 

  • Twenty (20) hours pre-reading and study. One (1) day face to face training and assessment 

HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid 

  • Twenty (20) hours pre-reading and study. Two (2) days face to face training and assessment 

HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy 

  • Twenty (20) hours pre-reading and study. Two (2) days face to face training and assessment 

HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources 

  • Twenty (20) hours pre-reading and study and collection of documents required for assessment of this unit of competency. One (1) face to face training and assessment 

 Pre-requisite 

HLTAID011 Provide first aid is a pre-requisite for HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy 

Curriculum

  • Salus Group Academy acknowledges that applicants will already hold skills, knowledge and experience that are integral to completing this training program within the described time frame. Salus Group Academy will confirm applicants are suited to the training program in which they enrol and be given the best opportunity for a positive vocational outcome.  
    • Numeracy – ACSF Level 2 
    1. Language Literacy and Numeracy 
  • Salus Group Academy recognises that not all students will have the same level of ability in relation to reading, writing and performing calculations. Potential students who have indicated Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) may be a concern, will be offered a LLN Assessment. Students must satisfactorily complete Salus Group Academy’s LLN test to a minimum of the following standards aligned with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF): 
    • Learning – ACSF Level 2 
    • Reading – ACSF Level 2 
    • Writing – ACSF Level 2 
    • Oral Communication – ACSF Level 2 

Salus Group Academy will assist all students in their efforts to complete training programs by all methods available and reasonable. Trainers are responsible for ensuring that all students are aware they can contact their trainer or other Salus Group Academy staff members if they are experiencing difficulties with any aspect of their studies. Staff will ensure students have access to the full resources of Salus Group Academy to assist them in achieving the required level of competency in all nationally recognised units of competency.  

 If a student is experiencing personal difficulties, training staff will encourage the student to contact Salus Group Academy management, who will provide discreet, personalised and confidential assistance according to the nature of the difficulties. If issues are impacting the student’s study, course deferral may be discussed. 

 Where a student’s needs exceed the capacity of the support services Salus Group Academy can offer, they will be referred to an appropriate external agency. These needs may be academic needs or personal needs. Extensive information regarding support agencies, resources and services may be sourced online. Salus Group Academy staff members will assist students to source appropriate support. 

 Students who demonstrate slow progress will be supported as required. Students can seek support at any time by discussing their needs with the trainer and assessor or staff at Salus Group Academy.
